Associate

We are looking for interesting candidates that graduated with a masters or PhD in economics and / or statistics. One to two years prior experience in a competition authority or other economics consultancy is advantageous.

CEG is an economics consultancy advising on a range of matters including competition conduct and damages, commercial damages, intellectual property, auctions and mergers & acquisitions. With locations in Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Dusseldorf, London, The Hague, Zurich and Sydney we offer an international and diverse environment in terms of our clients, cases and colleagues. CEG offers a structured career path with little hierarchy, bureaucracy and duplication where you can fully contribute and take responsibility early on. You are provided mentorship as requested or needed.

About the role

We are looking for Associates to join our offices in Düsseldorf, Barcelona, Berlin or Zurich. You will be working closely with our more experienced economists to assist with research on legal and economic developments, collecting and processing data, conducting economic analysis, and drafting internal memos, presentations and sections for expert reports presented to competition authorities, courts and tribunals.

You will be assessing arguments and questions put forward from competition authorities, courts, tribunals or opposing parties. You will be working closely with our teams to develop theoretical and empirical arguments within the relevant legal framework. You will be translating your thoughts and findings for non-technical and non-economic audiences. You will also be preparing and attending client calls and meetings supporting your more experienced colleagues.

We expect that you fully engage in our team, share your thoughts and ideas, and actively challenge the thinking, concepts and economic analyses from peers and more experienced colleagues.

Your profile

Successful candidates usually have a master’s degree (or higher) in economics and / or statistics. You need to have the ability to work well in teams and under tight deadlines. You need strong technical and analytical skills, including good knowledge of Stata or R (on the job training provided).

We also require that candidates have a keen interest in topics relating to competition law and applied economics and share our dedication to produce accurate and high-quality work. You need excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate complex issues and solutions in a simple manner. English is a requirement, other languages are a plus.

We further require that candidates have the ability to conduct in-depth research, have strong attention to detail, are organized and able to correctly prioritize under pressure and tight deadlines.

Benefits of working with us

We offer an attractive package beyond renumeration and bonus. At CEG, we are output driven and we value individuals the way they are: you can work largely autonomous and independent, and choose to work from home or from the office. You will receive mentorship from highly regarded and experienced experts in the field and work on challenging, complex and high-profile cases across various jurisdictions while collaborating closely with colleagues from other offices.

We pride ourselves in the quality of our work and we believe that this strongly correlates with the well-being of our economists. We therefore do our best to keep work hours to the contractually agreed hours and do not place value on “face time”. As we are working on high-profile case, we are – at times – required to work beyond normal work hours. This is generally compensated with time off in lieu.

Next steps

Does this sound like a good fit? Please send us your full CV and cover letter explaining your previous experience and motivation to join us to recruitment@ceg-europe.com. We will carefully review your application and get back within 2 weeks.

Successful candidates are then invited to solve a case for us (a few written pages). This is followed by a first interview where you get the opportunity to introduce yourself, discuss the case with us, answer a few economic questions and have the possibility to ask us any questions you may have. Generally, this is followed by a second interview focused on applying economics.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.
